Who is it for?
Whether you are joining campus for the first time, moving to another campus, travelling for attachment or internship, attending graduation somewhere else, staying near campus during a long holiday, arriving early for an examination, or simply looking for a new roommate, there may be other students looking for accommodation — including students who already have a house and may be willing to accommodate a peer for an agreed period.
My Roomie is a roommate and student accommodation-discovery platform for students in Kenya. Whether you are a university student, KMTC student, college student, polytechnic student or TVET student, you can create a profile, discover potential roommates or students who may be able to accommodate you, compare living preferences and connect with students who may also be looking for accommodation.
My Roomie is for university students, KMTC students, college students, polytechnic students and TVET students in supported locations. It can be useful whether you are joining campus for the first time, changing accommodation, moving to another campus, going for attachment or internship, attending a competition, travelling for graduation, staying through a long holiday, arriving early for supplementary or special examinations, or simply looking for a new roommate.
You create an account, choose your institution and campus, complete your roommate profile and publish it when you are ready. You can then browse other published profiles, use filters to narrow your search, save profiles to your Roomie Deck and request a connection when you find someone suitable. Depending on the situation, the student you connect with may also already have accommodation and be willing to host or accommodate another student for an agreed period.
My Roomie uses information provided in roommate profiles to help students discover people with potentially compatible accommodation and lifestyle preferences. This can include institution, campus, budget, preferred location, room requirements, year of study, gender preferences, lifestyle habits and other profile information.
Your selected campus helps My Roomie show you relevant roommate and accommodation-related profiles by default. Depending on the discovery options available to you, you can broaden your search to other campuses within your institution or explore a wider set of supported institutions and locations.
Yes. My Roomie is designed to support students whose accommodation needs may extend beyond their immediate campus. You may need to move to another campus for attachment, internship, teaching practice, classes, graduation, a competition, a conference or another school-related reason. You can broaden your discovery when you need to find students in another location.
Yes. My Roomie can also be useful when you are looking for a student who already has accommodation and may be willing to host or accommodate you for an agreed period. For example, you may be travelling to another campus for graduation, arriving early for a supplementary or special examination, staying around during a long holiday, attending an event or travelling for attachment. Any hosting arrangement, duration and amount charged should be discussed and agreed upon directly by the students involved.
Yes. Your accommodation need does not have to be permanent. You may use My Roomie when you need somewhere to stay for a few days, several weeks or another agreed period, depending on the students and accommodation available. This can include graduation, examinations, attachment, internship, competitions, conferences, school events, holidays or other temporary stays. The students involved are responsible for discussing the duration, house rules and any rent or hosting rate before agreeing to stay together.
Yes. If your graduation ceremony or related activities are taking place at a campus or location different from where you normally study or live, you can broaden your discovery and look for students around the graduation location. This may include finding another student who already has a house or room and is willing to accommodate you for the graduation period. Any rent, hosting fee, duration and house rules should be agreed upon directly by the students involved.
Yes. If other students have travelled home for a long holiday but you have decided to remain near campus, My Roomie can help you discover students who may still be around or who may have available accommodation. You may also find a student with an existing house who is willing to accommodate you for the period you need. The students involved should discuss and agree on any rent or hosting rate, duration and living arrangements.
Yes. If you return to campus early because you have a supplementary examination, special examination or another academic requirement and need somewhere to stay before your normal accommodation arrangements begin, you can use My Roomie to look for students in that location. This may include finding someone who already has a house and is willing to accommodate you temporarily. Any payment, duration and house rules should be agreed upon directly by the students involved.
Yes. A student who already has a house or suitable accommodation may choose to accommodate another student for an agreed period. This can be useful when another student needs temporary accommodation for graduation, examinations, attachment, internship, holidays, competitions, conferences or other school-related activities. Students are responsible for discussing availability, duration, house rules and any rent or hosting rate before making an arrangement.
My Roomie does not set or guarantee rent or hosting rates for arrangements between students. Where a student is willing to accommodate another student, the students involved should discuss and mutually agree on the amount, duration, payment arrangements, house rules and any other conditions before the stay begins.
Yes. You do not have to attend the same institution to become roommates. For example, a university student, KMTC student and college student may all be staying in the same town and looking for accommodation. A student from one institution may also accommodate a student from another institution who needs a temporary place to stay. My Roomie helps students discover potential roommates and accommodation connections based on their needs and preferences.
Yes. If you are joining university, KMTC, college, polytechnic or TVET for the first time and need somewhere to stay, you can create a profile and look for other students who may also be looking for roommates or who may have suitable accommodation. You can compare things such as budget, preferred location, lifestyle and other living preferences before deciding who to connect with.
Yes. If your industrial attachment, internship, practicum or teaching practice takes you to another town or near another institution, you can use My Roomie to find students around that area who may also be looking for accommodation. You may also find a student who already has accommodation and is willing to host you for the period of your attachment or placement. You do not have to attend the same institution to become roommates or make an accommodation arrangement.
Yes. If you are travelling for a hackathon, competition, innovation challenge, conference, bootcamp, sports event or another student activity, you can use My Roomie to find fellow students who may also be travelling to the same area and looking for accommodation. You may also find a student already living there who is willing to accommodate you temporarily for the event period.
Yes. If you are transferring, changing campuses, attending classes at another campus, going for attachment, internship, teaching practice or another school-related activity, you can broaden your discovery and look for students around your new location when that location is supported. This can include finding a student who already has accommodation and may be willing to share or host you for the period you need.
My Roomie currently supports Maasai Mara University, the University of Nairobi, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), Kisii University, Kenyatta University, Mama Ngina University, Strathmore University, Chuka University, University of Kabianga, Egerton University, Technical University of Mombasa, University of Embu, University of Eldoret, Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), Great Lakes University of Kisumu, Moi University, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST), Karatina University, Maseno University, and Laikipia University.
My Roomie is expanding beyond universities to support more students across Kenya, including KMTC students, college students, polytechnic students and TVET students. Institutions and campuses are added as they become available on the platform, so availability should always be checked on the Campuses page.
Support is campus-specific. A university may have several campuses listed on My Roomie, while other locations may not yet be available. The Campuses page shows the institutions and locations currently configured on the platform.
No. My Roomie is not a dating app. It is designed specifically for finding and connecting with potential roommates and students with accommodation needs. Profiles and discovery focus on accommodation, budget, location, living arrangements and lifestyle compatibility.
Your stated preferences and profile information help you filter and discover profiles that may be relevant to you. Preferences can include gender, budget, location, year of study, room requirements and lifestyle habits. They are intended to help with discovery, not to guarantee compatibility.
The Roomie Deck is where you can save roommate profiles you may want to come back to later. Saving a profile does not create a match or guarantee that the other student is interested.
When you find someone you would like to connect with, you can use the platform's connection flow. Where applicable, the connection process includes the required M-Pesa payment step. Once a connection is successfully confirmed, the relevant communication and contact-sharing features become available according to My Roomie's rules.
My Roomie's connection flow currently uses a one-time KES 100 connection fee where applicable. The payment is handled through the platform's M-Pesa connection process. Always follow the payment instructions shown inside My Roomie and never share your M-Pesa PIN.
No. The connection fee does not guarantee that you will find a suitable roommate, secure accommodation or successfully move in with another student. My Roomie facilitates discovery and connection between students; the final roommate, hosting and accommodation decisions remain with the students involved.
The 'Actively searching' status indicates that a student has recently indicated that they are currently looking for a roommate or accommodation. The status is time-limited and may automatically expire when the student's active-search period ends.
Students control the information they provide on their roommate profiles. Some fields may be optional, and not every student will have identical accommodation needs, preferences or profile details.
No. My Roomie helps students discover potential roommates and accommodation connections based on information they provide, but no matching system can guarantee compatibility or the suitability of an accommodation arrangement. Always review the other person's profile, communicate appropriately, verify important information and make your own decisions before entering into any roommate, hosting or accommodation arrangement.
No. My Roomie is a roommate and accommodation-discovery and connection platform. It does not own, manage or guarantee accommodation, hostels, rental properties or agreements between students. Students are responsible for verifying accommodation information and discussing and agreeing on arrangements such as duration, rent, hosting rates, house rules and other conditions before staying together.
No. My Roomie is an independent platform. Being available to students from a university, KMTC, college, polytechnic or TVET institution does not mean that the institution officially endorses or operates My Roomie unless an official partnership is expressly announced.
My Roomie is currently focused on students and student communities in Kenya. The platform may expand to other countries in the future, but locations outside the currently supported areas should not be assumed to be available.
