My Roomie is an independent accommodation and roommate discovery platform built to help students and learners find suitable people and places to stay throughout their academic journey.
What is My Roomie?
Finding somewhere to stay is not always a one-time problem. A student may need a roommate for a semester, accommodation during attachment, a place to stay while attending a competition or conference, somewhere to stay during graduation, or temporary accommodation during a holiday or examination period.
My Roomie exists to make it easier for learners to discover people and accommodation around the places where their education takes them.
The platform allows learners to create profiles, share relevant living preferences, discover other learners, explore accommodation-related opportunities and connect privately before making their own arrangements.
Who is My Roomie for?
My Roomie is designed for students and learners in higher learning and tertiary institutions across Kenya, including:
More than finding a roommate
My Roomie is not limited to students looking for a permanent roommate. Accommodation needs can change throughout a student's academic journey.
You might be starting at a new institution, moving to another campus, going for attachment or internship, attending a hackathon or competition, travelling for a conference, coming for graduation, staying during a long holiday, or arriving early for supplementary or special examinations.
In some situations, another student may already have a house or available space and be willing to accommodate someone for an agreed period. My Roomie can help those learners discover and connect with each other.
The arrangement is between the learners
My Roomie helps people discover and connect. It does not set accommodation prices or guarantee that a particular room, roommate or hosting arrangement will be available.
Where learners decide to stay together or one learner accommodates another, they are responsible for discussing and agreeing on matters such as the amount to be paid, duration of stay, payment arrangements, house rules and other terms before proceeding.
Users should make their own decisions and take appropriate care when entering into accommodation or financial arrangements with another person.
Built to grow across institutions
My Roomie is being developed with a broader vision than a single-campus service. The platform is designed to support learners across different universities, colleges, KMTCs, polytechnics, TVET institutions, TTCs and other higher-learning institutions.
As more institutions and locations are supported, learners can use My Roomie not only around their usual institution but also when academic activities take them somewhere else.
The long-term goal is to build a practical network where learners can more easily find people and accommodation wherever their education takes them.
An independent platform
My Roomie is an independent platform. It is not an official university, college, KMTC, TVET, polytechnic or TTC service, and does not claim endorsement or official affiliation with the institutions listed on the platform.
